CAN DO Community Christmas is coordinated each year by CAN DO’s Student Action Committee, which is made up of local high school students who plan and assist with special community projects throughout the year. The event is held at the J.J. Ferrara Performing Arts Center in downtown Hazleton every December.
The children write letters to Santa with the help of the students on the committee.Highlighting CAN DO’s Community Christmas is a special visit from Santa Claus, who takes time to visit with the children in attendance on his way to the North Pole.
The crowd hears Christmas tunes performed throughout the evening by the Hazleton Area High School jazz ensemble; the Hazleton Area High School chamber singers; the Hazleton Elementary/Middle School sixth-grade chorus; and the Heights-Terrace third-grade chorus.
Each student who performed at CAN DO Community Christmas received a T-shirt designed by the Student Action Committee as a thank-you for participating in the event.
