In January 2010, rate caps that have kept electricity costs in Northeastern Pennsylvania relatively stable for almost 15 years were removed.

Quote During the years the costs were capped at 1996 levels, the price of electricity has risen. The Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission expects electricity rates will rise significantly over the next several months.

Electricity costs for midsize companies are expected to rise by about 36 percent. For small businesses, the cost increase is projected to be about 18.5 percent.

CAN DO can offer solutions to either reduce electricity usage and consumption or provide renewable options. Financial packaging offered by CAN DO can make the project more financially attractive and shorten the payback period.

CAN DO’s goal is to help the regional industrial base by providing businesses with practical, meaningful energy solutions to reduce their energy costs for years to come.

How does it work?

A company reaches out to CAN DO expressing a need to reduce its electricity costs or engage a specialist to look at options in a rising-rate environment.

Depending on the company's energy usage goals, CAN DO will refer Certified Energy Solutions Providers that meet the energy objectives of the company. Ideally, the company will receive multiple proposals per energy efficiency or renewable energy solution from CAN DO Certified Energy Solutions Providers, which will enable a company to competitively bid out its energy projects.

Once a vendor is selected, the vendor works with the CAN DO staff to identify and apply for funding to reduce the payback period or make the renewable energy project economical. Financing may be identified for both energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.
