CAN DO promotes entrepreneurial-based economic development to help Greater Hazleton and the surrounding regions foster innovation and retain talent by supporting organizations such as:
Historically, CAN DO has applied a real estate development approach to economic development and job creation. As location becomes a less-competitive factor in job growth, CAN DO is engaging in entrepreneurial-based economic development on a regional basis through the support of business incubation while providing the necessary resources for entrepreneurs, including financial and human capital.
A study completed by the Lowe Foundation and the U.S. Small Business Administration looked at 400 regional economies across the United States and determined the following when comparing the most entrepreneurial regions with the least entrepreneurial regions: New firm birth rates were 1.9 times greater; firm growth on average was plus-1.6 percent per year compared to minus-2.4 percent; job creation rate was 1.7 times greater; wage growth was 14 percent higher and productivity growth rates were 50 percent higher.
CAN DO hopes to replicate these statistics in Northeastern Pennsylvania because doing so would provide all residents with increased opportunities.
