Best Cigar Prices holds groundbreaking ceremony for major expansion that includes bar and restaurant

Best Cigar groundbreakingBest Cigar Prices, which sells premium cigars and accessories via the internet, telephone, catalog and at its facility in the CAN DO Corporate Center in Drums, held a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday for Best Cigar Pub, the company’s new state-of-the-art store, lounge, bar and restaurant scheduled to open in the late spring of 2019.

The two-story addition will add just under 3,000 square feet to Best Cigar Prices’ existing 25,000-square-foot building. The company expects to have 60 employees following the expansion, an increase of more than 20 percent over its current workforce. CAM Architects, Ltd., of Wilkes-Barre assisted Best Cigar Prices with the design and Kingston contracting firm Champion Builders, Inc., will construct the addition.

CAN DO receives more than $1.8 million in grant funds for White Birch Road extension project

White BirchCAN DO received more than $1.8 million in Community Development Block Grant funding through Luzerne County that it will use for continuing phases of the White Birch Road extension project.

Luzerne County Manager David Pedri announced the grant as part of his keynote speech during the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce’s recent Red Carpet Breakfast. CAN DO is among six municipalities in lower Luzerne County that are sharing a pool of $15 million in block grant funds.

CAN DO has earmarked the $1,851,767 in funding for the ongoing project to extend White Birch Road in the Humboldt Industrial Park. The new road is part of a project to create a second access road into the park from Route 424, the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Beltway, as well as provide another outlet to reach Interstate 81.

CAN DO Student Action Committee seeks name of servicemen and women serving abroad for Operation: CAN DO drive

The CAN DO Student Action Committee recently celebrated the launch of its 14th Operation: CAN DO drive, an annual program that creates and ships care packages to military members with ties to Greater Hazleton who will be stationed abroad for the holidays, and is requesting help from the community to gather the names of service members so packages can be sent to them for the holidays. The Student Action Committee conducts the annual drive with assistance from the Freeland American Legion Post 473.
