As part of its ongoing series of community service events, the CAN DO Student Action Committee is organizing the sixth annual Operation: CAN DO program to collect goods and funds that will be used to create care packages for troops stationed in the Middle East. The packages will be delivered to troops who have ties to Greater Hazleton in cooperation with American Legion Home Association Post 473 in Freeland. Co-chairs for this year’s Operation: CAN DO are Matt Caccese, Weatherly Area High School; George Gera, MMI Preparatory School; and Stephen Senick, Hazleton Area High School.

June was a busy month for Humboldt Station, as both Burger King and Sonic opened their doors on consecutive days. Burger King began serving the public on June 8, and Sonic followed on June 9.

“Burger King and Sonic will provide new dining options for the 7,000 employees in Humboldt Industrial Park and the thousands of people who travel the busy Interstate 81 corridor each day,” CAN DO President Kevin O’Donnell said.

CAN DO has launched a redesigned website at www.hazletoncando.com.

The site includes information for the Hazleton community as well as real estate professionals considering Greater Hazleton as a location for their business. It features property search capabilities, park maps and community and demographic information. Visitors can also learn more about the various industry clusters in CAN DO parks and Greater Hazleton, including the food service industry, plastics industry, distribution and logistics cluster and back office/business continuity cluster.

Work on Route 924 is nearing completion ahead of schedule, according to Patricia Fritsky, construction manager with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

cando-officers-2010CAN DO, Inc., marked another year during its 54th annual dinner meeting June 9 at Best Western Genetti Inn & Suites, Hazleton.

Before the dinner, the organization’s board of directors met to discuss the highlights of the last fiscal year and to elect officers and at-large board members.

curbappeal_logo_colorCAN DO will present awards to industries in its parks and corporate center during its third annual Curb Appeal Awards industry mixer. The mixer will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. September 22, 2010, at the Residence Inn by Marriott in Humboldt Station.

cando-ssptv-youtubeCAN DO has partnered with SSPTV to produce the CAN DO Corner, a two-minute segment that appears monthly as part of the News 13 broadcast and CAN DO's YouTube channel.

Those watching the CAN DO Corner will learn more about the organization itself as well as current CAN DO projects and economic development news. Each segment features two speakers from CAN DO, typically a staff member and a board member, who are particularly familiar with the subject matter.

can-do-community-foundation-officersThe CAN DO Community Foundation held its 18th annual meeting, where officers were elected and accomplishments highlighted.

During the meeting, foundation President Gary F. Lamont recognized the members of the board, volunteers, the community and CAN DO for their contribution of time, talent and resources to the foundation during the past year.

kanjorski-cando-fundingCAN DO has received nearly $750,000 to fund improvements to the water systems in Humboldt Industrial Park and the CAN DO Corporate Center.

During a press conference at the CAN DO Corporate Center, just off Interstate 80 in Drums, U.S. Congressman Paul Kanjorski and United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development Pennsylvania State Director Tom Williams announced that CAN DO would receive a $649,800 loan and a $99,000 grant to help fund the improvements of the water supply systems in the industrial park and corporate center.
