As part of its ongoing series of community service events, the CAN DO Student Action Committee is organizing the sixth annual Operation: CAN DO program to collect goods and funds that will be used to create care packages for troops stationed in the Middle East. The packages will be delivered to troops who have ties to Greater Hazleton in cooperation with American Legion Home Association Post 473 in Freeland. Co-chairs for this year’s Operation: CAN DO are Matt Caccese, Weatherly Area High School; George Gera, MMI Preparatory School; and Stephen Senick, Hazleton Area High School. While our troops are stationed overseas, many of the comforts of home are not readily available. Operation: CAN DO is the student committee’s way to both thank the dedicated men and women of the armed forces and help make their time abroad as comfortable as possible.

To that end, committee representatives are accepting donations of both goods and funds for the care packages. Any donation you make will be greatly appreciated not only by the students, but also by the men and women protecting our freedom so far from home.

Businesses wishing to participate by making a monetary donation are asked to make checks payable to: Operation: CAN DO. If you would prefer to donate goods to Operation: CAN DO, items needed to fill the care packages are listed below.

Donations for Operation: CAN DO can be made at the CAN DO offices on the corner of Church and Broad streets between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. from October 1 through October 24.

You can also provide names and addresses of soldiers to have care packages sent to free of charge.

The care packages will be assembled and delivered in time for the holiday season to troops with family in Greater Hazleton.

On behalf of the CAN DO Student Action Subcommittee, thank you for your support.
