CAN DO is pleased to announce the recent promotion of Karen Martinez to the position of Accounting Specialist II and the hiring of Jessica Miller as Accounting Specialist I.

In her new role, Martinez will take on additional duties and increase her responsibilities within the organization’s many accounting functions, including utilities, and other billing departments. In addition to her two-year tenure with CAN DO, Martinez has over 16 years of extensive accounting experience, ranging from accounts payable and receivable to accounting management. Outside of her work with the organization, Martinez actively contributes to her community as a board member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she spearheads initiatives to revamp financial reporting and ensure sound financial practices. Martinez’s exceptional skills, dedication, and remarkable contributions to the organization will continue to enhance the organization’s efficiency and effectiveness in its accounting department.

“Karen has proven herself to be a tremendous asset over the past two years,” said CAN DO’s Chief Financial Officer, Patricia Gendler, when asked about Karen’s contribution to the organization. “She started during the pandemic but did not let that stop her from learning her position and making great strides at CAN DO. It made sense to allow her to continue to grow and promote her to Accounting Specialist II.”

Before joining CAN DO as a new Accounting Specialist, Jessica Miller graduated from Lycoming College in 2017 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and Economics. Miller's passion for using her education to benefit her hometown aligns with CAN DO's mission and commitment to the Greater Hazleton area. In her role, Miller will perform daily accounting functions across all of CAN DO’s divisions, departments, and associations – including managing accounts payable/receivable, analyzing leasing division costs/expenses, and preparation of monthly general ledger reports as required.

Expressing her excitement about joining CAN DO, Miller said, "As an Accounting and Economics major in college, I think working at CAN DO is exactly what I needed. I always love learning new things, but allowing me to see my college education used to its fullest potential by helping the area I grew up in is a rewarding experience in itself. I look forward to learning all aspects of my job and understanding CAN DO’s full impact in the Greater Hazleton area."

Before joining CAN DO, Miller was a Senior General Ledger Analyst at Genpact with experience in overseeing accounting operations.

“Jessica was an excellent hire for CAN DO,” said Gendler when speaking on the organization’s latest hire. “She stood out during the hiring process due to her passion for the Greater Hazleton Area and interest in helping her community with the skill sets that she obtained both in college and prior experience with Genpact. I welcome her to the team and look forward to seeing Jessica blossom at CAN DO.”
